I'm sure this video isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea, but I recognize it as powerful-memorable video story telling. Wish I knew what filters director Tom Haines used here.

Maurice Sendak and Spike Jonze

We've posted about Spike Jonze before, but his most recent project is bringing to film Maurice Sendak's powerful children's books "Where the Wild Things Are".


Everything I've seen about this movie is extremely captivating, and it looks really refreshing to me. I think mainly because Jonze has mostly steered clear of the overuse of CGI special effects. He's using huge costumes blended seamlessly with minimal CGI. I'm sooo glad he's opted to use live action as opposed to creating all the characters with CGI. The trailer came out today, and it looks way creepy/fascinating to me. You can view the trailer here. I'm not sure what to expect.



If you are interested, the music in the trailer is from the Arcade Fire. Its a great song, but this band has always been kinda hit and miss for me.

Shugo Tokumaru

I thought you guys might enjoy this.

Shugo is a music genius who intricately weaves sounds of all sorts by using random everyday objects to classical Japanese instruments. He has collected hundreds of noise makers and often incorporates them in his music.

I just wish I could tell what he was saying-maybe we'll have to get Phil to translate.

Beautiful Flash Experience

Came across this interactive flash site in which the user guides a brush to music, and the brush stroke responds to the music and lyrics. It has a pretty large initial load time but stick it out and turn up your speakers. Its a great example of an effective interactive user experience highlighting a product.

Yellow Treehouse Restaurant

I've only dreamt about tree-house structures like this. This one so so slick its even got the Ewoks of Endor beat. This New Zealand restaurant seats 18 people! (although the kitchen and bathrooms are on ground level). The concept of a "tree-restaurant" is cool enough on its own, but the seashell-esk shape and superb lighting make this defiantly worth checking out. Container Color Systems

Hip design shop Antrepo is selling these beautiful color system posters of stacked storage containers. For some reason I never grow tired of swatches and color systems.

Edward Kinsella: unfortunately no relation to Mike or Tim

I guess you could say this artist Edward Kinsella is one of the more traditional artist we've posted about. His style does however stand out among other modern painters. It hints of a more revserved Sam Weber.

Virtual Video Experience

I've posted about this stuff before, I guess the concept really appeals to me?

I saw this Armani Jeans website today, and although extremely cheesy even down to the "keyboard demo" music it showcased a pretty powerful concept. You may have seen 360 degree environments on the web where the user can move their mouse side to side and rotate their perspective. (example) And you've probably seen it used in google maps street view. What this Armani site does is very similar, but with video. So you can take in your moving enviornment from any angle you want while the action is taking place.

This is where I see virtual reality meeting the motion picture world. I invision the movie-goers in the future sitting down (or standing up) and maybe putting on a helmet with a screen/visor or some type of personal screen viewing device and then as they move their head they can change the angle they view the scene taking place. They can check behind them as the protagonist enters a dark alley, they can just stair at the sun while the shoot-out carries out right in front of them. Also viewer interactivity will most likely be implemented, such as video-game coordination skills or "choose your own adventure" stuff. Anyway, this site is far from that point, but its a significant step in that direction.
