I attempted to ride my bike down to the ocean last week, and somehow got lost. Giving up I decided to ride back home, but got lost again. However, I ran into a museum along the way where there were punk rock kids, business men, and children socializing on the main floor of the building. Like any curious person, I went inside to see what was going on. Turns out there was live diva art, Jello Biafra, and the Gilbert and George exhibition. I listened to Jello for two minutes before deciding he has the most annoying voice aside from Casey Kasem, and his politics are typically Left and redundant, so I went into the G & G exhibition. I had never heard of these guys, nor their work, but was instantly amused. They're a couple of british dudes who operate as a couple: they do all of their work together. Their manifesto is an anti-manifesto of sorts, where they give the reader/observer full credit and responsibility in interpreting the work as they see it. G&G aim to abolish the rhetoric and hoity-toityness of high art by blurring their work in every dichotomy. Most of everything that was displayed was giant paneled pieces of highly exposed colors, with people, poop, and potpourri as subjects/objects. Their art deals with religious iconography, pop culture, friends, flowers, sex, bodily fluids, and such. These pictures are examples of their more "kid-friendly" pieces. Very interesting. And very graphic-arts concentrated.

Spike Jonze: Fully Flared Skate Video Intro
A little over the top and even silly, but still extremely captivating.
PS> When I was looking for this I found this bizarre clip from Spike's film version of the childrens book "Where The Wild Things Are" looks pretty interesting as well. Creative cat that Spike Jonze.

Space Ant's 2nd Landing?...
I'm about to graduate and before I flop my portfolio onto a design firm's desk, I want it to be completely polished. I don't want to feel a need to justify, excuse, or explain any weak projects/pieces. So as i review my current portfolio, I'm realizing I've got some super early work on there, and embarrassing work at that. The Space Ant site, although a worth while idea, was one of my first Flash websites to ever create. Building a function "Artist community website" with a multiple profiles/bios/interviews/photo galleries/illustration galleries/music sections and even written word pieces was more than I could chew at that early stage, but I did my best and submitted a finished site. But now it makes me cringe to see my awkward transitions, generic uses of gradients, and awkward vague navigation (lobster buttons?). So to end my rambling, I feel it was a worthwhile project and I'm going to re-vamp it. So again I extend an invitation to all interested in submitting work, do so asap. I plan the sites surgery in mid March, and I'll need all the pieces we want to implant soon. Have faith in me that I won't place your work in an unflattering website again.
Let me know if you're willing to help me in this effort.

Javier Senasiain(?): arquitecturaorganica
Living quarters that are a joy to look at and probably a glory to live in. And it's not just that they're organic (the ones that are) or that they're so shapely, it's also what Mathias was talking about on Cerparley's blah: How Latin American cultures are enviably colorful. These are all designed and executed in México as far as I can tell. //LINK//
And props to the Geekologie writer for showing me this, the cat armor and many other amazing things.

Camera phone blog
Ok, I tried and failed to make a photography blog, so I am going to
give it another try, more simplified. I am going to try a photo a day,
taken with my camera phone. No zoom no photoshop no cropping blah blah
blah. That way I can immediately post it and I think it will be a good
challenge for me as well. Feel free to check it out at http://photovisual.blogspot.com

Jeff de Boer: cat armor and space guns!
This man of Canada creates the most fanciful metalworks that are convincingly functional. He is definitely a master of metals with a sharp mind to fuel his craft. To me, and therefor to you, the most intriguing pieces are his space stuff and animal armor. Under Galleries, check out "Cats and Mice" and "Space Stuff" and whatever else you want to. //LINK//

Friend and talented photographer Casey Niederhauser takes lots of photographs, and keeps his site fairy updated. He's an avid outdoors-man/climber which provides him with lots of amazing photos. I have his site as a feed on my google reader account. PHOTO SITE
He's also an amazing interactive designer. Here's a link to his design site.
